Professor Marc Zimmer

Marc Zimmer, the Barbara Zaccheo Kohn ´72 Professor of Chemistry, is a leading expert and researcher of green fluorescent protein (GFP), a jellyfish molecule used as an imaging agent in most molecular biology and medical research labs. Zimmer´s book, Glowing Genes: A Revolution in Biotechnology (Prometheus, 2005), discusses how the glowing protein can be used to kill and image cancer cells, monitor bacterial infections and light up in the presence of pollution. His GFP website is used in many college and high school classes and has been highlighted in Science.
