Frida Morelli received a BA in Translation and Interpreting in Italy, where she worked as a professional interpreter and translator until she moved to the US. In the US, she received an M.A. in Linguistics from George Mason University and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Maryland College Park, with a specialization in Phonological Theory.

Her dissertation The Phonotactics and Phonology of Obstruent Clusters in Optimality Theory, is a study of the principles that govern co-occurrence restrictions of certain consonants across languages. She has published and presented at conferences extensively on this topic.

She comes to Connecticut College from George Mason University where she taught Italian at all levels and coordinated the Italian language program. Prior to that, she taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Linguistics at the University of Southern California, Rutgers University, Georgetown, American University, and the University of Maryland.

At Connecticut College she teaches introductory and advanced Italian.
