Admission to Credit Courses

ADMISSION TO CREDIT COURSES

Summer Session information

  • The minimum requirement to apply for admission to credit courses is appropriate educational background including graduation from an approved secondary school or equivalency program as well as fulfillment of prerequisites. Personal qualities of maturity, motivation and responsibility are important criteria for admission acceptance. An official copy of your diploma or transcript from a college and/or high school must be submitted to the Office of Records and Registration no later than the first day of the session even if you are auditing the course.
  • Courses are filled on a first-come, first-served basis except for courses with limited enrollment, in which credit students have priority over auditors.
  • Some courses may be open to qualified high school students who submit written recommendations from the high school principal, college adviser or teacher, along with acceptable records, and who apply by interview with the Director of Registration.
  • Students who wish to take courses at the graduate level (500 series) must present to the Director of Registration evidence of qualification for study at the advanced level. Possession of an undergraduate degree may be required. Connecticut College master's degree candidates should obtain the approval of their advisers.
  • Connecticut College undergraduates must have the approval of their faculty advisers to take summer courses.
  • Registration in a summer course does not automatically carry with it admission to a degree-granting program at the College.
  • Courses are equivalent to the regular college offerings and are taught by Connecticut College faculty and visiting instructors. A maximum of eight credits may be taken during the summer.
  • Students should be aware that Summer Session courses are demanding and intensive, concentrating courses normally offered over a period of 14 weeks into a six-week session. A student enrolling in two courses should not hold a job during the session.
  • Connecticut College Summer Session does not offer a pass/fail option. Letter grades are assigned in all credit courses for papers, tests, assigned work, and recitation.
  • Credit courses offer four (4) college credits unless otherwise noted.

Honor System

Connecticut College students are guided by an Honor Code that endorses academic and social integrity. Every person enrolled in a credit course at the college is expected to uphold this code. Specific information is available in the Office of Records and Registration.

At the first class meeting, the instructor will distribute copies of the Honor Pledge to be signed and returned by all credit students. This handout defines violations of examination procedures and includes a copy of the Honor Pledge, which must be written and signed on each examination.

Auditing Credit Courses

Certain credit courses may be audited at a fee of $290 per course (see course listings).

Alumni

Alumni of Connecticut College may audit without charge one undergraduate credit course (100-400 series) per semester with permission of the instructor and if space is available. This privilege is limited to courses designated "Auditors welcome." Alumni requests should be submitted to the Office of Human Resources, Strickland House, 860-439-2085, following registration with the Office of Records and Registration.
