Programs of Study

The minimum number of courses required for the master's degree in biological sciences, botany, chemistry, and music is eight.

The master's program in psychology consists of 12 courses.

Programs must be completed within four years from date of entry.

The minimum cumulative average for the degree is B (a cumulative grade point average of 3.0) for all work exclusive of the thesis (pass/not passed).

Only courses completed with grades of B- (2.7) or higher may count toward the degree. All courses considered for transfer must have recorded grades of B or higher.

Credits taken before admission to programs

The application of transfer credit from other institutions toward the degree is subject to the approval of the major department and the Graduate Studies Committee.

Courses proposed for transfer must have been earned within the last five years from the date of admission. Some courses taken elsewhere may not substitute for the Connecticut College required courses, e.g., Education 223. All courses considered for transfer must be graduate level and have recorded grades of B or higher.

Courses taken at Connecticut College within the last five years from the date of admission through the special day, evening or summer programs prior to admission to master's programs may be considered for transfer into the graduate program. However, admission to a graduate program at the College does not imply acceptance of Connecticut College credits earned prior to admission. All courses considered for transfer must have recorded grades of B or higher. Under no circumstances may the number of courses accepted for transfer total more than three.

Transfer of credits for admission to programs

With the approval of the appropriate academic department, a graduate student may petition the Graduate Studies Committee for permission to take a course at another institution after admission to a Connecticut College degree program. The request for permission must be received at least two months before the course is offered. Following completion of the approved course and upon receipt of an official transcript, the Graduate Studies Committee will approve the transfer, if the recorded grade is B or higher. Under no circumstances may the total number of courses accepted for transfer before and after admission to the graduate program exceed three.
