Study Away/Teach Away (SATA)
Interested in a semester of learning and adventure abroad in the company of other Connecticut College students and a professor?
The College's own SATA programs provide our students the unique opportunity to join their own professors in a joint educational enterprise designed to enhance their knowledge and appreciation of political, economic and social systems significantly different from their own.
A SATA group typically includes ten to twenty students and is led by one or two faculty members. Many SATA groups study in developing nations and interact with local communities.
During the SATA semester, you carry a regular course load by taking classes offered by the Connecticut College professor(s) and faculty at the host institution. The academic focus placed on these programs varies from one country to another and from one year to the next, depending on the academic interests of the professors leading the program. As the normal study away period is during the junior year, coursework for SATA programs is primarily designed to appeal to third-year students.
You may be housed either in dormitories with students from the host university or in private homes for the duration of the program. Those housed in private homes may have to rely on public transportation to attend their classes.
Most SATA Programs include field trips designed to help you and your fellow student-travelers develop an appreciation for the history, culture and social customs of the country or region where you are studying.
