former residence of Song Qingling, Shanghai

Former Residence of Song Qingling, Shanghai 3/23/04. Diana Sweet '07 gives the camera a pained look as she works hard on that day's language practicum. Gazing down upon her is the statue of Song Qingling, wife of Dr. Sun Yatsen (or Sun Zhongshan), who was later in life the Honorary President of the People's Republic of China.   Her house, as fine as any Newport mansion, stands as a testament to the wealth and international lifestyle to which Madame Song was accustomed.   It does not, however, act as a "museum of the bourgeoisie."
