Research

The overarching philosophy in the sciences at Connecticut College is that teaching and research with undergraduate students is one unified activity. Students often pursue research projects with faculty members as part of their educational experience that are funded through a variety of sources, including the Keck, Mellon and Mathieson Research funds and numerous faculty grants.

Research facilities include a flume used primarily for research on channel morphology and pool hydraulics, and our biological sciences labs.

Recent and current projects have involved agencies such as the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, the Institute of Water Resources, the USGS, the Forest Service and the National Park Service. Students generally present the results of their research at regional, national or international conferences and often become co-authors on peer-reviewed journal articles.

Students have been co-authors on publications in journals such as The Journal of Environmental Quality, Limnology and Oceanography, Lake and Reservoir Management and more.
