German Studies

Study Away

Majors and minors are strongly encouraged to spend a semester or year studying in Germany on a state-to-state exchange program with Baden-Württemberg, home of many ancient and illustrious universities, or at one of the IES institutes in Berlin (IES Berlin) or Freiburg (IES Freiburg).

Through the John S. King German Travel Scholarship, funds are offered on a competitive basis to majors and minors to engage in summer study in Germany.

The German Studies department also has strong connection to the Toor-Cummings Center for International Studies and the Liberal Arts (CISLA).

Other study away opportunities are available through the Office of National and International Programs.

Further, we are proud of the number of Fulbright Scholars in German that the department has produced over the years.

In 2007, three students received Fulbrights to do research and teach in Germany.
In 2003, Greg Smith received a Fulbright to do research in Trier.
