Human Development

Departmental History

In the spring of 1997, the department of Child Development redesigned the major and expanded its focus to include more attention to families, middle life and aging.

In today's research and best practice, child development is viewed as part of a more expansive and multi-age and multi-system model. The human developmental perspective extends the focus of study beyond childhood, so that parts of the lifespan, such as parenthood, aging, intergenerational relationships and death and dying can be more fully covered.
