Many people know they can come to Fort Griswold to watch the Fourth of July fireworks display over the Thames River, but it is really so much more than that.  Children of all ages will appreciate a trip to the site of this Revolutionary War battle.

If your child is a history buff, they will be fascinated by the stories behind the battle at Fort Griswold.  Did you know that Benedict Arnold led the 1781 attack that left the villages of Groton Bank and New London burned to the ground?   Did you know that the fort was used during four more wars as well – the War of 1812, the Spanish American War of 1898, WWI, and WWII.   This site is full of history!

Pack your family a lunch and head through tunnels and along pathways that were once filled with Revolutionary War heroes.  Settle on a bunker and imagine the soldiers at battle.  Climb to the top of the Groton Monument and enjoy a spectacular view of three states.

This site is perfect for rolling, running, climbing, pretending or just relaxing.  Safety issues are at a minimum here, allowing you to relax while the children run and explore.

You wouldn’t want to forget to bring your camera to Fort Griswold.  There are plenty of photo opportunities at the cannons!
