Harkness
Memorial State Park is the magnificent summer estate of the late Edward S.
Harkness family.The estate
features Eolia, a 42 room Italian mansion and its formal gardens. There are also many out buildings on the property that serve
as mini-museums.
Whether
you go during the peak season or off-season, Harkness Park has a great deal to
offer.During the peak season, you
can tour the mansion and the Oriental and Italian gardens. There are horse and carriage rides and an antique car display.
The green house has a children’s corner and a science center. You can wander over to the farm area for the butter churning
demonstration or see the display of antique bottles and farm equipment.Your children will be surprised to learn that early farmers did not have
the motorized equipment they see today.
Harkness
Park is a favorite spot of the ConnectiKITERS Kite Club.Subtle rolling hills and shoreline winds make it an ideal spot to launch
a kite.Your children will be able
to see kites of all shapes and sizes and can even join the fun by bringing along
a kite of their own.
