| Although
you may not think an art museum is an ideal place to take a child, when
approached the right way it could be a lot of fun!
If your children are at all interested in drawing, painting, or
playing with play-dough, they really might find this museum interesting. |

Located
on beautiful grounds which include the Deshon-Allyn Museum and sculpture
gardens, Lyman Allyn also offers family friendly events such as the
Magic Carpet Ride series and First Sundays.
The Magic Carpet Ride series is a free event for preschoolers and
their caregivers aimed at exposing toddlers to shapes, colors, art and
movement. First Sundays are
family oriented gatherings at the museum with music, public
performances, poetry, movies and refreshments. While you are visiting Lyman Allyn, be sure to see the landscape collection that is part of the museum's permanent collection. Young children will readily identify with the paintings. (What child doesn't like to draw the sun over a tree?) They will be encouraged to go home and create their own masterpiece with a new variety of colors and a new perspective.
