two children The idea for this web site developed as a result of a brochure titled "Simple Gifts: How to give of yourself and your time."  The brochure was prepared and presented to the Grandparents Conference sponsored by Connecticut College and Jewish Family Services held at the Groton Senior Center in May of 1999.

Additional ideas regarding community exploration were presented at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) 1999 Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.  The presentation was titled "Exploring our neighborhoods: Maximizing the developmental benefits of community field trips."  Both the brochure and the conference were prepared and field-tested by Professor Margaret Sheridan and Connecticut College Human Development Majors, Nell W. Chevalier and Lee Ann Curran.
