SATA Prague Quotes

What Students Have to Say

Zach, Asa, Scott, Eva, Tahereh (front row left to right), Buzzy, Abigail and Annie (back row left to right) celebrating Professor Eva Eckert's birthday in her Prague apartment.

—SATA Prague was wonderful… in that it gave me the opportunity to leave the U.S. and see something completely new.  While I liked the Czech Republic very much I perhaps value most the understanding of America that this program has given me.

—Eva's trips made the SATA experience so much more enjoyable and enriching for me.  I was so pleased to see places off the tourist trail.  I also enjoyed the cultural events Eva planned.

—The weekend trips were wonderful - even with all the hiking.

—The 5-day trip through Central and Eastern Europe was great.  It was wonderful to see other countries and to get out of the city for a while.

—My trip to the Czech Republic really allowed me to grow personally and academically. I learned a lot about languages and other cultures.  The cultural events were very helpful and I was glad to have so many things offered to me all the time.
SATA students, having climbed the steep hill above the village of St. John’s near Prague, settled for over one millennium, an ancient pilgrimage site with an old church and caves.

—The semester as whole was definitely worthwhile, fun, and conducive to growth. There was always someone for me if I needed help – the leadership was great!

—Among the positives were definitely the linguistics class, weekly hikes and trips, and some of the courses that I took independently.

—I had an amazing time in Prague and got to make a lot of really good friends. I would definitely like to go back. To be able to live in another country for a few months and travel was an incredible experience.

—Going to Prague has been a life changing experience. I am a different person now… I have a greater knowledge of what it is to be human and why we are what we are. Living in a foreign society I see what is similar and common among all people and unique to a culture and society.
Our first trip in January to the town of Skalka near Prague for breathtaking views of the countryside, experiencing lots of fresh air as well as “the road of the cross” on the hill below.

— I really like what I learned in linguistics. The class made me understand how languages effect cultures.  I liked that we were exploring language issues together – really thinking about things.

— I value most the sensitivity I have come to possess for language, especially as an element of identity.

— The lectures in linguistics were excellent and the discussions substantive.

— The teaching was so energetic!
