Movement to Japan

The many Nikkei-Brazilians living in
Oizumi at first found it hard to adapt to the difference in culture
and tradition that the Japanese possessed in comparison to their
own. In time maybe they will learn to coexist with the Japanese
and appreciate their lifestyle while in return incorporating a
taste of Brazil. After very little research it was easy to see
that the majority of Nikkei-Brazilians moved to Japan for economic
reasons. In Oizumi there is a high demand for work in factories. It is
a job where the knowledge of Japanese is not a necessity so for
most Nikkei's it is their only alternative. Factory work demands
long arduous hours of work so a cafezihno (Brazilian coffee) and
a `Brahma Chop (beer) come well deserved at the end of the day.
While talking to a Nikkei-Brazilian in a bar about factory life
he told me, `I have been working in a factory here in Oizumi for
over 8 years now. Everyday I do the same thing, burn metals, twist
and turn them. It is a pretty straight forward job but after you
do the same thing day in and day out it gets to be very difficult
and stressful. I need this space I have here to relax and think
a about other things and not have to worry about being perfect.
If it weren't for a 'cafezihno' after work, I think I would go
crazy.'
