Biology

You'll receive a top-notch, comprehensive undergraduate biology education through the biology department at Connecticut College.

We have strong faculty research programs in cell and molecular biology, genetics and evolution, organismal biology and ecology that lay the foundation for diverse student-faculty research opportunities and advanced laboratory and field-based learning.

You'll learn with experts in fields such as:

  • evolution
  • molecular biology
  • genomics and proteomics
  • developmental biology
  • animal physiology
  • microbial ecology
  • population ecology
  • comparative biochemistry
  • marine biology
  • cancer and the cell cycle
  • genetics

Many of our students publish papers with faculty in peer-reviewed journals and present the results of their research at regional or national research conferences.

Perhaps your research will lead to great discoveries like that of two of our microbiology students, Molly Goettsche and Nicole Moin, Class of 2007. They garnered national media attention with their project that challenged the validity of the "the five-second rule," which stipulates that dropped food will be safe to eat if it stays on the floor for fewer than five seconds. Did their findings refute that age-old rule?
