Looking Forward/Looking Back: Musical Reflections -Connecticut College Music Faculty Showcase
Nineteen Connecticut College music faculty and guest musicians join forces to present works that are both forward-looking and reflective, in a program that will inspire listeners to draw connections between contemporary and earlier music. Works include two virtuosic solo piano works by Maurice Ravel, “Pavane pour une infant défunte” and “Ondine,” Conlon Nancarrow’s delightful Trio No. 2 for oboe, bassoon, and piano, John Adams’s exhilarating Son of Chamber Symphony, a work for sixteen performers to be conducted by Assistant Professor Mark Seto, Robert Pollock’s Metaphor for Vibraphone, Kamillo Lendvay’s Five Movements in Quotation Marks for brass trio. Throughout this provocative program the audience will experience the power of music to make reference, both to other musical works and to extra-musical factors.
Tickets $10, Students & Seniors $5
