“Sufism As a Mediating Force in South Asia,” a symposium, brought together noted scholars to discuss the role of Sufism — an ascetic, mystical dimension of Islam — in the Islamic community of South Asia in October, 2011.
The religious studies department also works closely with the College's Center for the Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity. In 2008, the Center's student-led seminar explored how society might memorialize the war on terror.
