Dean of the Faculty, Dayton Professor of Art History

The highest-ranking officer after the president, the dean of the faculty is responsible for providing academic leadership for the College and its faculty. The dean of the faculty provides leadership for the College’s educational mission, supports faculty development, and ensures the quality of the College curriculum. The dean is responsible for overseeing all academic departments and programs; stewarding the appointment, promotion and tenure of individual faculty members; identifying new chairs and program directors; reviewing the faculty compensation program; and administering the academic budget.

Jeffrey Cole

Associate Dean of the Faculty, Professor of Anthropology

Jeff supports department chairs on the hiring of visiting and adjunct faculty and coordination of visiting committees for departmental 10-year reviews and self studies. He is responsible for tracking sabbatical eligibility and supporting the Committee on Faculty Compensation (CFC) in reviewing sabbatical requests. Jeff oversees faculty funding and professional development opportunities through the R.F. Johnson Faculty Development Fund, Susan Eckert Lynch ’62 Faculty Research Fund, the Elizabeth McGuire and Anthony T. Enders Fund, and the Research Matters Fund. He serves on the Academic Administrative Procedure Committee (AAPC) and the Facilities and Land Management Committee (FLMC) and convenes the Calendar Committee as well as the New Faculty Orientation Committee.

Amy Dooling

Associate Dean for Global Initiatives and Director of the Global Commons, Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures

Amy works with offices and individuals across campus to coordinate the College’s global education efforts. She provides leadership and vision for the Global Commons, advances the goals of full participation at the College, and contributes to the development of the global-local engagement dimensions of the new Connections curriculum, promoting curricular integration of study away, and advancing innovations in the College’s world language programs.

Amanda Barnes

Secretary to the Faculty, Assistant to the Associate Dean of the Faculty

Amanda provides general support for faculty governance, including FSCC, AAPC, PPBC, EPC and faculty meetings. She sets meeting dates, prepares agendas, minutes, etc. The Secretary maintains IFF and curricular changes as well as email lists for the server. Amanda is the person to contact to schedule appointments with the Dean of the Faculty and with the Associate Dean of the Faculty. Amanda provides all administrative support for the Associate Dean of the Faculty.

Jenny Doak

Senior Assistant to the Dean of the Faculty

Jenny manages the Dean’s calendar, coordinates office processes for the dean, and provides administrative support for projects within the dean’s office, including the tenure and promotion process, Board of Trustees meetings, endowed chair events, and the Faculty@Work series.

Mary Ellen Deschenes

Accounts Payable Assistant

Mary Ellen is the contact person for all funds administered through the Office of the Dean of the Faculty including: endowed chairs, R.F. Johnson and Hodgkin funds, Research Matters, Faculty/Student Engagement, faculty searches, relocation expenses, and visiting committees, etc. She is the liaison with Accounting for processing receipts for reimbursement requests and cash vouchers.

Charlene Gobeli

Human Resources Specialist

Charlene works with the Dean of the Faculty and the Associate Dean of the Faculty on all aspects of faculty hiring and appointments, including supporting faculty searches and coordinating all hiring-related paperwork. Charlene is the liaison with Human Resources and Payroll on all processes regarding faculty matters and special projects. She maintains faculty personnel files and tracks sabbatical requests and eligibility.

John Nugent

Director of Institutional Research

John designs studies of campus policies and programs to inform institutional decision-making, fosters informed program improvement via collection, analysis, and reporting of campus data, maintains major institutional data sets reported to external agencies; completes or coordinates major institutional surveys and supports the College's enrollment and planning efforts.
