Rasika Ranasinghe teaches the following economics courses: Introductory Microeconomics, the Economic Development of South Asia and Labor and the International Economy.

Before joining Connecticut College, Professor Ranasinghe was a consultant at the World Bank and a Research Fellow at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, at the University of  Melbourne, Australia.

She has worked on development projects in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Cambodia, Australia and India. Selected projects include:

  • School-to-work transition of youth in Sri Lanka
  • Migrant workers in Sri Lanka
  • Impact of caregiving on caregivers in Australia
  • Gender wage differentials in India
  • Sustainable distance-learning strategies in Indonesia
  • Gender and development in Cambodia

Ranasinghe's research interests include development economics with a focus on poverty, education, employment and gender issues.
