Mallory Selfridge Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science Joined Connecticut College: 2005 Specialization:
Most recently a senior scientist with Discovery Machine, Inc., in Williamsport, PA, Mallory Selfridge developed research initiatives using proprietary knowledge engineering tools for cognitive modeling of subject-matter experts in domains such as air mission planning and naval at-sea operations. In 2002 he founded and was chief scientist at Inference Research in Danielson, CT, where he conducted research in conversational natural language and developed a powerful natural language "engine" with integrated deep reasoning. Among earlier positions, he was the founder of and chief scientist for Precision Training Software, Inc. (1988-2002). Mallory Selfridge earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Yale University in 1980. His dissertation was titled "A Process Model of Language Acquisition." Mallory holds both an M.Phil. and and M.S. in Computer Science from Yale. Mallory has held number of research positions in addition to being a faculty member at University of Connecticut in Storrs from 1980-2001. While on the faculty at UConn, and with permission, he founded and led this company which created and sold unique PC-based aviation training software to teach instrument flight procedures to pilots.
