Susan W. Warren
Senior Lecturer, Biology Joined Connecticut College: 1989 Specialization:
Susan Warren earned a B. S. in Biology from Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pa. and then went on to receive her M. S. in Biology from Adelphi University in Garden City , New York. Her first teaching experience was at the middle school level, teaching Physical Science in Williamsburg, Va. From there she taught high school students through LEARN, a Connecticut educational consortium. While with LEARN, she also taught a Gifted and Talented Science Program. For many years she worked as a science content tutor with Mitchell College. She has been at Connecticut College since 1989. Sue Warren, lecturer with the biology department, teaches laboratories for General Biology and serves as faculty advisor for freshmen and Biology majors. She is very interested in teaching techniques that will enhance the biology laboratory curriculum. A laboratory experience that encourages the student to be an active learner is rewarding for the student as well as herself. Recently Warren participated in a developmental biology workshop at the University of Maine and a Biology of the Brain teaching conference supported by the National Association of Biology Teachers. She is also a member of ABLE, The Association of Biology Laboratory Educators and SENEME, the Southeastern New England Marine Educators. She is science chairperson for the Ledyard Parent-Teacher organization. In addition to providing support programs to the science curriculum, the LPT offers science and mathematics family programs. Many of the aspiring science teachers from Connecticut College have volunteered to help the younger students with these programs. Warren has always encouraged her Biology students to be involved with community outreach programs. One such opportunity is "Multiply Your Options", a conference for eighth-grade women considering careers in science. Sue also currently serves on the Ledyard Board of Education School to Career subcommittee. View the Biology department Web site.
