COMMUNICATIONS

THE INTERNET AND E-MAIL
There is Internet (and thus, e-mail) access at Shain Library and computer labs. If you have your own computer and an Ethernet (LAN) cable, you will also be able to get online from your dorm room.

POSTAL SERVICES
There is a post office on campus at the college center. It is open during office hours and offers a variety of services. Your post office box is located within the Post Office, and you will have that box for your entire four years at Conn.

CAMPUS TELEPHONE SERVICES
Your AT&T Campus Plan account allows you to call off campus by dialing in your Personal Identification Number (PIN). Your PIN number will also activate the dorm access system. Further information will be supplied to you upon your arrival. Check the rates before you call an international destination on your AT&T card. International students are often surprised to receive incredibly high bills for calling home. If you have a U.S. bank account, consider paying your phone bills online as AT&T has a plan that might give you special rates for doing that (and saving them paperwork). You can also sign up for this via the Internet.

PHONE CARDS
Depending on where you need to call, many international numbers are much cheaper to reach using prepaid phone cards. Note that you will be given a STC calling card service as soon as you get here. Make sure you know the rates as the costs is very high for internationals. Skype is one of the best alternatives you might want to look into. Some good places to get phone cards are the gas Station in Hodges Square. Consider connection fees, your calling needs and the duration of your average call when choosing a phone card. You can also buy phone cards online at sites like http://www.phonecardcafe.com/, http://www.leancard.com/, http://www.uniontelecard.com/, and http://www.cheapphonecards.com/, but remember that many of your fellow international student friends may have specific cards or web sites to recommend for calling your home region at great rates. Local calls with the area code - 860 are free from your room phones.
