A FEW GENERAL SUGGESTIONS WHEN TRAVELING: Label all your baggage, inside and outside! NOTE: All forms of transportation to the college (shuttles, connecting flights, buses and trains) are primarily available during daytime hours. Late night or evening arrival may necessitate a stay overnight at the airport hotel until the next day. Notify the Dean of Studies/International Student Adviser's office in advance at 1 (860) 439-2050. REMEMBER if your train or plane does not seem to be there or if you are in a strange city and want to take a bus, ASK ONLY UNIFORMED EMPLOYEES who work for the company (airline, bus company, Amtrak) for information.

It is most convenient to get to the college if you land at Logan Airport in Boston (2 hours from the college). If you arrive at Logan Airport in Boston you can take the "T", which is the Subway train that brings you to South Station ($1.25) where you can take the Amtrak train ($20-$25) to New London, Connecticut.

If you arrive at T.F Green Airport in Providence (45 minutes-1 hour from college) you can take a taxi or an airport shuttle ($9- $12) to the Amtrak train station or the Greyhound bus station in Providence and from there take the train ($19- $24) or the bus ($15- $20) to New London, Connecticut.

If you arrive at JFK Airport in New York you can take the airport shuttle or AirTrain to Penn Station where you can take the Amtrak train ($45-$50) to New London, Connecticut, or alternatively you can take the shuttle to Port Authority where you can take the Greyhound bus ($20-$25) to New London.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL (SPRING BREAK/WINTER BREAK VACATIONS)

If you will be traveling out of the U.S. on holiday and you are here in the States on an F-1 visa, MAKE SURE YOU PICK UP YOUR MOST RECENT I-20 from the Office of the International Student Adviser. New I-20's are printed in the fall semester once you have arrived on campus and again after the start of the spring semester.

AIR TRAVEL WITHIN THE U.S.

You need to have a government-issued ID when you fl y within the U.S. This means an U.S. driver's license if you have one, your passport, a state issued ID but NOT a student ID. You can get tickets by contacting the airlines directly on the phone or on the Web, by looking at Web sites that find cheap tickets (like http://www.lowestfare.com/ or http://www.priceline.com/), or by using a travel agent. Conn College students often fl y out of and into Providence, RI, or Hartford, CT. Connecticut Limousine (http://www.ctlimo.com/) will pick you at La Guardia, JFK, Newark or Bradley Airport and take you to New Haven, CT. Prices are: La Guardia/JFK: $40 one way; Newark: $45 one way, Bradley: $26 one way. Call 1-800-472-LIMO (1-800-472-5466) at least ten days in advance. An unreserved train ticket can be used on any unreserved train which has the same fare, within a certain period of time, i.e., if you miss the train you could take the next one, or if you change plans you could travel a week later. A reserved train ticket has a fixed train number and time. Some trains have reserved and unreserved sections and some are all reserved (unreserved tickets cannot be used). The Student Advantage Card costs $20 per year and gives you 15% off on Greyhound and Amtrak fares. It can be obtained through Greyhound (online) or Amtrak (at the station). TRAVEL, EXPLORE THE NORTHEAST

New London is situated in a great place in terms of access to interesting travel destinations. New York City is three hours away and Boston is only two. New Haven (where Yale University is) and Providence (Brown, RISD etc.) are both 40 minutes away by train. The trains (http://www.amtrak.com/) are expensive though, you might want to try the bus (http://www.greyhound.com/). The train/bus station is only a five minute drive from campus. Most major cities on the East Coast are reachable from New London with only one train. If you plan to travel farther, Providence and Hartford have big airports with frequent domestic flights to all over the States. The cheapest airlines from these airports are Southwest (http://www.southwest.com/) and Metro jet (http://www.usairways.com/), they are both very safe. New London also has a small airport across the river in Groton, but it only has flights to Philadelphia (although you can catch connections from there to all over the States) and those tend to be very expensive. Don't always assume the train will be the cheaper option. In some cases planes might as well be much cheaper on some routes (a flight from Providence to Baltimore, Maryland costs half as much as a train ticket).
