Q: What testing is required for international students?

A: The SAT Reasoning test is optional for applicants to Connecticut College. The results of two SAT Subject Tests are required. Additionally, if your first language is not English, we require an official score report of the TOEFL, APIEL, MELAB, IELTS, ELPT or equivalent. Connecticut College's number for both the TOEFL and the College Entrance Examination Board is 3284.

Q: What are your minimum and median TOEFL scores?

A: We seek candidates with a TOEFL equivalent of at least 600 on the paper-based exam or 250 on the computer-based exam. For the class of 2010, 640 was our median score on the paper exam, 269 was our median score for the computer exam.

Q: What do I do if my country does not offer the SAT Subject Tests or other standardized testing?

A: For applicants whose countries do not offer the SAT Subject Test exam, we will accept the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), but the GRE is not required. Students may also send additional writing samples and should contact the Office of Admission with specific questions. Students whose countries do not offer standardized testing should not let that stand in the way of applying to Connecticut College.

Q: Should I submit official certificates and awards?

A: No, we prefer that you list your certificates and awards on a separate sheet of paper that is attested to by school officials.

Q: Do you accept international applications for spring semester?

A: It is in the best interest of the international student to apply for the fall semester. We accept an extremely limited number of students for the spring semester, if we accept any.

Q: Does Connecticut College offer financial aid for international students?

A: Each year, we are able to offer a limited number of need-based scholarships for non-U.S. citizens/residents that, depending on the level of financial need, may cover the cost of tuition, room, board, books, supplies, and health insurance. Competition for these scholarships is rigorous and we are looking for students who have shown outstanding academic ability, a high level of competence in English and a notable level of academic involvement.

Q: How does the Financial Aid Office determine my family's need?

A: International students who are applying for aid must complete the Foreign Student Financial Aid Application, available through the College Board or may be accessed at http://www.conncoll.edu/finaid/. E-mail inquiries should be addressed to Ms. Gay Buths. If you are not applying for financial assistance, you must send an affidavit of the availability of funds to finance your education.

Q: Can I apply online?

A: International students applying for admission as Freshmen must submit the Connecticut College Part I Application Supplement as well as the Common Application. Both are available on-line at http://www.conncoll.edu/admissions/applying/application/. The application for transfer students is not yet available on-line.

Q: Does Connecticut College offer graduate programs?

A: The College grants the Master of Arts degrees in biological sciences, botany, chemistry, music, and psychology. Interested students should contact the appropriate department. Connecticut College does not offer PhD programs.
