What's Next?
Beginning in May, you will receive a series of informational mailings and forms to fill out and return. Included will be information on class registration, housing and a library research skills tutorial to complete on-line.
Don't forget to have your final grade report sent to the Office of Admission before the end of June.
Later in the summer, you will be assigned a faculty adviser and a peer adviser, a student who lives in your residential house. You will also receive several questionnaires, including one to help match you with a roommate and another to help your academic adviser get to know you and your interests.

Class registration
All first-year students are required to take a freshman seminar, a one-semester, discussion-intensive course limited to 16 students. (The "Freshman Focus" program also fulfills the freshman seminar requirement.) In many cases, the professor of your freshman seminar will also be your adviser.
You will register for your freshman seminar on-line. Registration will begin Monday, June 9, at 5 p.m. eastern standard time and extend through Friday, June 13, at 4 p.m. For the greatest choice, register as early as possible in this period.
On June 2, we will send you your Connecticut College e-mail address and password. If you have not received it by June 3, contact the Dean of Studies office at jill.blodgett@conncoll.edu or 860-439-2050. You will need it for on-line registration.
We will also ask you to select three additional courses for discussion with your faculty advisEr during orientation. Registration for these courses will not be finalized until you have met with your advisor. You will receive descriptions of the 2008 freshman seminars and registration instructions in mid-May. For a head start on course selection, you can browse through the online course catalog and the list of Freshman Seminars 2008.
Housing assignments
In May you will receive a housing questionnaire that will ask about your likes and dislikes, personal habits, study habits, etc. and will be used to match you with a roommate or roommates. First-year students may be assigned to doubles, triples or quads. If you choose "Freshman Focus you will be housed in the same residence hall as your classmates in the program. Some freshman seminars also have a residential component. You will receive your housing assignment in mid-August.
Library skills tutorial
Finding, evaluating and using information effectively are critical skills for success at Connecticut College as well as important outcomes for a liberal arts education. To help you develop these skills, we assign a College librarian to support each freshman seminar. We also require you to complete an on-line research skills tutorial over the summer and share the results with your freshman seminar faculty. On average, the tutorial takes about 30 minutes. It is not a test, and you shouldn't feel anxious about it. Incoming students have widely varying levels of experience with academic research methods and resources. The tutorial helps us understand where you are in the spectrum and provide advice and support that meets your personal needs. In July, you will receive more information on the tutorial and instructions on completing it before you arrive on campus. For more information, contact Melissa Behney, director of research support and instruction, at mabeth@conncoll.edu or 860-439-2444.
