Connecticut College Connecticut College 2011 Strategic Plan

Vision for 2011

“A college should be a central powerhouse for human betterment,” stated Frederick Sykes, one of the founders of the College and its first president. That vision continues to guide Connecticut College in preparing students to be active and effective citizens in a global society.

By its centennial in 2011, Connecticut College will be distinguished by a uniquely effective combination of curriculum, community, and setting. The College’s distinctive learning experience will blend an innovative curriculum with educational experiences outside the classroom locally, nationally, and internationally. Each student’s process of self-discovery and development will include rigorous academic challenges and broadening intellectual and social experiences, shaped by an integrated system of academic and career advising. The living and learning environment will house a democratic and diverse community of faculty, staff, and students working together with mutual respect for difference. The strong reputation of the faculty will be based on their scholarship and creativity, their commitment to teaching, and their engagement of students in ways that provoke, intrigue, and transform. The beautiful and well-maintained arboretum campus, updated with new facilities, will enrich the learning, teaching, research, and work of the College community. Connecticut College will inspire the pride and support of alumni who value how the College has shaped their lives and encouraged them to make significant contributions to the world.
