Head Coach Tom Satran - Eighth Season

Coach Satran

Tom Satran, Connecticut College class of 1994, enters his eighth season as head coach of the Connecticut College men’s basketball program. Satran, an assistant coach on Connecticut College's 1999 NCAA Division III Final Four team, returned to his alma mater after successful stints as an assistant coach at Brown University and New York University.

Satran's Camels continue to make significant progress toward their goal of returning to the NCAA Tournament. His teams have qualified for three of the last four NESCAC Tournaments and won 30 games over the past two seasons. In  2008, Connecticut College posted a 17-8 record, qualified for the NESCAC Tournament and defeated three teams that qualified for the NCAAs. In so doing, the Camels earned a tie for the seventh highest win total in program history.

As an assistant at Connecticut College, Satran helped recruit and develop one of the most successful teams in recent Division III basketball history. In 1998, Connecticut College finished 22-4, earned their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance and subsequent advance to the NCAA Division III "Sweet Sixteen." In 1999, Connecticut College reached the NCAA Division III Final Four, posted an undefeated regular season record, earned a number one national ranking and a number one New England ranking.

At Brown, working for former Connecticut College and current University of Pennsylvania coach Glen Miller, Satran assisted in the development of one of the nation's fastest growing Division I programs. At NYU, Satran participated in all aspects of one of the top programs in Division III and was specifically responsible for coordinating a national recruiting campaign, game preparation and individual player development.

Satran enjoyed an exceptional career as a student-athlete at Connecticut College. As a senior, he was team captain and set a school record for three pointers made in a season. He was also a highly decorated student, earning the Brown/Brooks Award, which is given annually to the outstanding senior scholar-athlete at Connecticut College, the Hanna Hafkesbrink Award for the outstanding student of the humanities, the James Baird Prize for excellence in critical writing and the Lyman Allyn Award in honor of the outstanding student of Art History. He graduated with a double major in English and Art History in May 1994 and earned a Masters of Teaching English from the college in May 1998.

Satran, 37, lives with his wife Esther P. Wood Satran ‘93 and their daughter Hannah in Pawcatuck, Connecticut. Hannah will be three years old in April 2010.
