Men's Ice Hockey Coach

Jim Ward

Head Coach

Fifth Season

Jim Ward enters his fifth season as head coach of the Camel men's hockey program. Ward arrived in New London after spending three years as an assistant coach at Princeton University in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Ward's presence on the bench has been instrumental in the development of one of the youngest hockey teams in the nation. The 2006-2007 team finished 10-13-2 overall and 9-9-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), reaching the league's postseason championship for the first time in program history.

Greg Parker '10 was honored as the league's Rookie of the Year and named second team All-NESCAC for his superlative performance in net. Ryan Howarth '10 was named NESCAC Player of the Week February 19 and finished a productive rookie season with a team-high 13 goals and 20 points.

Ward has been educating and coaching the sport of hockey for 22 years. As an assistant at Princeton University in the ECAC, Ward contributed to all phases of a competitive Division I hockey operation, with particular emphasis on recruiting and coaching defense. Prior to joining the Princeton staff, he spent seven years at the Northfield Mount Hermon Preparatory School in Mount Hermon, Mass. Ward directed the men's hockey program, worked in the college counseling office, and taught biology at the preparatory school. Before joining Northfield Mount Hermon, Ward spent four years as a lead assistant coach at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. He played a pivotal role in the elevation of the Union program from the Division III level to Division I status. He also spent three years as an assistant at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. During his first season, Ward helped lead the Cadets into the NCAA Tournament.

A 1985 graduate of SUNY-Geneseo, Ward earned a bachelor’s degree in biology. He received his master’s degree in athletic and physical education administration at Norwich University in 1987.

Ed Ardito

Assistant Coach

First Season

Ed Ardito enters his first season as assistant coach with the Camel men's hockey program. Ardito has spent the past five years at New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire, earning his degree in sport and recreation management. Ardito played three seasons of hockey for the Pilgrims, contributing to an ECAC Championship and an appearance in the Frozen Four.

In his senior season, Ardito moved behind the bench to begin his coaching career as a student-assistant for the men's team. The following year, he returned to become the head junior varsity coach and the varsity assistant. In November of 2006, Ardito was named the interim head women's ice hockey coach and directed the team to an appearance in the ECAC East semifinals.
