Dave Cornell

Head Coach •

Second Season

Dave Cornell enters his second season as the head coach of the Connecticut College men´s lacrosse program. Cornell joined the Camel athletic program after spending the previous two years as the lead defensive assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame.

Under the direction of Fighting Irish head coach Kevin Corrigan, Cornell assisted in all phases of a nationally ranked program that qualified for the 2006 NCAA Championship. While Cornell´s most recent experience is at the Division 1 level, he carries deep ties to Division III intercollegiate lacrosse. Cornell was a two-time All-America selection at Gettysburg College, contributing to three Centennial Conference Championship teams with the Bullets. Gettysburg reached its pinnacle in 1995 with an appearance at the NCAA Final Four.

After graduating, Cornell returned to his alma mater, serving as offensive coordinator for three-seasons and defensive coordinator for one year. The Bullets made four consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the national championship game in 2001. In 2001, Cornell was named head coach of Muhlenburg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Cornell developed and resurrected program that was reinstated after a 21-year hiatus, setting a program record for victories in 2003 and 2004.

Cornell earned his Bachelor of Arts in business management and entrepreneurship at Gettysburg. He holds a Master´s Degree of Science from McDaniel College in Health and Exercise Science and Athletic Administration.

 

Topher Grossman

Assistant Coach •

First Season

Topher Grossman, a 2005 graduate of Connecticut College, enters his first season as assistant men’s lacrosse coach at his alma mater.

One of the most prolific goaltenders in program history, Grossman received numerous honors and accolades for his proficiency between the pipes.  Serving as captain in his senior season, Grossman led the Camels to a five game winning streak and an appearance in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Tournament.  Grossman was dually honored as a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America and as a first team All-NESCAC honoree, averaging 13.4 saves per game in net.   

A committed leader on and off the field Grossman was recognized by his peers as the team’s Most Valuable Player from 2003-2005. A Dean’s List student, Grossman graduated with a degree in Biology.
At the conclusion of his senior season, Grossman was honored by the Camel athletic program as the Anita L. DeFrantz award winner. The award is given annually to the male and female members of the
graduating class whose athletic ability, leadership and sportsmanship best exemplify the qualities of Olympic Medalist Anita L. DeFrantz '74.

During the 2005-2006 academic year, Grossman taught and coached lacrosse at the Trinity Pawling School in Pawling, New York. In the summer of 2006, Grossman was named the assistant men’s lacrosse coach at Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan.

 

   
 

Dave Howes

Assistant Coach •

First Season

Dave Howes, Class of 1993, returns to Connecticut College as assistant offensive coach after spending seven years as the head coach at Fitch High School in Groton, Connecticut. During his tenure, Howes directed the Fitch program to three league championships and was honored by the New London Day as coach of the Year in two consecutive seasons. Howes has been teaching at ISAAC, a public charter middle school in New London since 1999.

Prior to his arrival at ISAAC, Howes served as the graduate assistant coach at Connecticut College under the direction of longtime head coach and current athletic director Fran Shields. Howes resides in New London with his wife Tami ’96 and their daughter Gwyneth and son Benjamin.
