Head Coach 37th Season
|
The Connecticut College men’s soccer program celebrates its 37th season under the direction of head coach Bill Lessig. Lessig, the only coach in the history of the program, has compiled a 261-217-37 record during his 36-year tenure. He has guided the Camels to eight post-season appearances including two Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Division III Championships in 1992 and 1996. In 1995, Lessig’s squad went 10-5 and made the program’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
In 2006 Lessig was inducted into the State of Connecticut's Soccer Hall of Fame. In the Spring of 2006, Lessig was honored enshrined into the Southeastern Connecticut Hall of Fame.
Under Lessig’s direction, the Connecticut College soccer program has produced one Olympian, three professional players, eight All-America’s, and 30 All-New England selections. Lessig has been a U.S.S.F. licensed coach since 1974 and served a five-year stint as the coaching administrator for the U.S.Y.S.A Region I Olympic Development Program where he implemented the Coaching Apprentice Program for inspiring youth coaches.
An adjunct professor in the physical education department at Connecticut College, he also spent 11 years as the head women’s basketball coach. With Lessig on the sidelines from 1982-93, the program had a record of 162-61 and made eight post-season appearances.
Prior to his appointment at Connecticut College, Lessig played semi-professional soccer for the Reading (PA) Amerks while earning his bachelor’s degree from Kutztown State. He went on to earn a master’s degree from Eastern Connecticut State University and then taught biology and oceanography for 17 years at New London High School.
Lessig resides in Quaker Hill, Conn. with his wife Chrystyna, an elementary school teacher in Groton. Lessig has two sons, Kyle and Shawn. Kyle is a staff coach for Strikers Soccer Club in Richmond, Va. Shawn is a business administrator in Fitchburg, Mass.
