Head Coach
Seventh
Season
Debbie
Lavigne enters her seventh season as head field hockey coach
at Connecticut College.
In 2005, Lavigne directed the program to its most successful season in recent history. The Camels finished the season with eight wins over the last 12 games of the year, qualifying for the NESCAC Championship Tournament. Connecticut College placed three Camels on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region Team. In the spring of 2006, Lavigne coordinated an educational/athletic tour of Australia for the team. It was the second successful international trip for Lavigne, who has also traveled to Holland with the program.
Lavigne
had an outstanding field hockey playing career for the Iowa
Hawkeyes from 1991-1994 and was part of four NCAA Tournament
teams. During her career, Iowa reached the Final Four three
consecutive years (1992-94) and in '92 the Hawkeyes went 20-1
and fell to Old Dominion in the national championship game.
As a junior in 1993, she was tabbed as a second team All-Region
selection. The following year, Lavigne went on to become a
second team All-America and a first team All-Big 10 selection
after leading the Hawkeyes in scoring. That same year she
also served as a team captain and was the Hawkeyes Co-MVP.
Since
1996, Lavigne has been involved with the USFHA's organization
that develops and trains potential national and Olympic team
members. In 1999 she became the head coach of Site A.
During the pre-season
of 2003, Lavigne led her team on an international tour to
Holland, Germany and Belgium.
Lavigne
earned a degree in Leisure Studies and Therapeutic Recreation
from Iowa in 1995. In the summer of 2006, Lavigne received her Master's
Degree in exercise science at Southern Connecticut State University.
