Heather McClelland

Head Coach

Third Season

 

 

Heather McClelland enters her third season as the head coach of the Camel women’s lacrosse program. Under McClelland’s direction, the 2007 Camels developed and matured as a unit, earning a late season NESCAC victory at Williams. McClelland returns her top seven scorers to the fold this spring along with a corps group of experienced defenders. Tri-captain Lindsey Coit ‘08 had a breakout season in the midfield, garnering All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Honors for the Camels.

McClelland arrived in New London after spending the previous year as the head coach at the University of New Haven . Under McClelland’s direction, the Chargers had two players tabbed to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Regional All-America Team. The squad had the highest grade point average in the New Haven athletic program with six members of the team earning a spot on the Dean’s List.

McClelland gained valuable coaching experience in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Working under the direction of head coach Holly Wheeler, McClelland spent two years as an assistant coach at Wesleyan University . McClelland assisted with all aspects of the Cardinal program, and helped lead the team to consecutive NESCAC Championship tournament appearances in 2003 and 2004.


McClelland enjoyed a highly successful playing career in the Patriot League at Lafayette College. An explosive offensive player, McClelland was named the conference Rookie of the Year in 1999. McClelland garnered Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year honors on back-to-back occasions in her junior and senior seasons with the Leopards.

McClelland earned a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and
sociology at Lafayette and completed her Master’s Degree at Wesleyan.


 

Elizabeth Ghilardi

Assistant Coach

Second Season

Elizabeth Ghilardi enters her second season as the assistant women's lacrosse coach at Connecticut College. A 2006 graduate of Colby College, Ghilardi brings a wealth of knowledge and championship experience from her playing career in the NESCAC.

In her senior season, Ghilardi served as a co-captain, leading the Mules to a 14-4 record and their highest winning percentage in the 28 year history of the program. She tallied 36 goals and 56 points and was named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaching Association (IWLCA) Regional All-American team. A Dean's List Student, Ghilardi earned her Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and Education.

Ghilardi serves as the co-director of the Camel Girls Lacrosse Camp. In addition to her work at the college, Ghilardi is affiliated with the Princeton University Camp and the Amonte Lacrosse Development Camp. A native of Norwell, Mass. the 23-year old Ghilardi is pursuing her master’s degree in psychology.
