March Mania

April 12, 2012

With more than 100 volunteers from “GOLD” classes, this year’s March Mania competition was a success. To celebrate the strong effort, Connecticut College hosted parties in Boston, New York and Washington, D.C. Join the Gold Facebook page to see photos.

March Mania is a friendly competition that pits Connecticut College against NESCAC rivals Bates, Colby, Hamilton and Trinity. The winning college (Colby took the title this year) has the greatest number of gifts from Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) alumni at the end of March. Though Connecticut College placed fourth, this year’s competition brought in 594 new gifts, for a total of 830 gifts from young alumni to date this fiscal year. Of the new gifts, 121 were from people who did not make a gift to the College last year.

Gifts made during March Mania helped increase the overall Annual Fund participation rate by 3.5 percent (it takes about 172 people per point). Alumni giving participation rates are often used as college and university success indicators. Higher rates send the message to grant-issuing corporations and foundations that institutions are worthy of investment, and higher rates can factor into many college rankings. Gifts of any amount help the College and add to the value of a Connecticut College degree.
