The Class of 2012 set a Connecticut College record by achieving 99-percent participation in the Senior Giving Program. The official news was announced by members of the Senior Giving Committee during the Senior Gala May 15. “This College has supported you through four remarkable years of liberal arts education, and I am delighted that you are now supporting the College. Your gifts through the Senior Giving Program make a significant and immediate impact on almost every aspect of the College,” President Lee Higdon told the class after the announcement was made. “I thank you for your dedication to Connecticut College and look forward to your continued support as alumni.” The previous record of 98 percent, set by the Class of 2011, was considered unbeatable to everyone except the members of this year’s Committee. In a show of competitive spirit, they started their campaign early and with tremendous enthusiasm. In achieving 99-percent participation, the Class of 2012 safeguarded a challenge gift of $25,000 promised by Tom Sargent ’82, chair of annual giving. The challenge gift would only be made, Sargent stipulated, if the class met or exceed the Class of 2011’s record of 98-percent participation. On Sunday, May 20, members of the Class of 2012 will become the newest members of the Connecticut College Alumni Association. “Based on their recent success, I’m confident this extraordinary group of young adults will have a significant impact on Connecticut College for many years to come,” Higdon said.
