Camel volunteers show their stuff

Camels in Washington, D.C., helped with landscaping outside building that provides transitional housing.
May 25, 2011

Camels from coast to coast cleaned beaches, sorted food and clothes, and did landscaping -- all part of the first annual “Camels Care” project during April.

Alumni participated in Boston, Rhode Island, New York, Los Angeles, Washington and San Francisco.

In Boston, interest in the program was so high that a second project was added to the schedule.

At Heading Home, a nonprofit that provides shelter, housing and support services for the homeless, the 11 Camels volunteers sorted through donated clothes and created a mini-boutique for Heading Home. They also organized a pantry that several programs rely on for food.

“It was wonderful to see the response of alumni,” said Bridget McShane, director of alumni relations. “We’re already starting to plan next year’s events.”
