Camelympics is a longtime tradition at Connecticut College which pits residence hall against residence hall in feats of strength and smarts. The first Camelympics took place in the fall of 1995 in a house vs. house battle, but we've decided to pin area against area and have loved the outcome.
The friendly rivalry begins at brunch in Harris, where students wear their house t-shirts and call out their house cheer for the first of many times that day. Brunch is followed by opening ceremonies and the presentation of house flags outside Cro … and then the games begin!
There is a Camelympics event for every interest, from Bombardment, Quidditch, Shaving Cream Wiffle Ball and 5-vs.-5 Basketball to Jumbo Bananagrams, crossword puzzles, Jumbo Yahtzee and various Wii games. Throughout the day, Coin Wars are waged at the front desk in Cro — people are asked to donate their loose change to the house of their choice. The funds go to a nonprofit organization chosen by the winning house.
The day is filled with fun, ice cream for first place winners, and bragging rights that continue throughout the year!
