Connecticut College is committed to ensuring that all its students have equal access to the academic, cultural, and social activities of the school. To this end, the College complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which stated that "No otherwise qualified individual with a disability in the United States …shall solely by reason of his or her disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Section 504 [29 USC 794] Sec 504.
This commitment is founded in the letter of the law but also extends to its spirit.
At Connecticut College, the Office of Student Disability Services has been established to help ensure equal access to educational activities for all students with disabilities. The office is located in Room 221 in the College Center at Crozier-Williams, where forms are always available outside of the office.
Various academic accommodations are available to students with disabilities, depending on the student’s individual need as supported in the documentation provided. All information shared by a student with the Office of Student Disability Services is held in confidence.
Except for emergency reasons, information is exchanged only as necessary in providing services or with those with specific offices and/or individuals for which the student has provided written permission.
