Housing Accommodations

There is a Committee on Accommodative Housing which reviews all requests for housing accommodations. The committee includes members of the offices of Residential Education and Living, Student Disability Services, Student Health Services, Dean of the College and Student Counseling Services.

These two forms (pdf) are required when requesting a housing accommodation, as well as documentation from a qualified professional which supports the request:
Accommodative Housing Petition

Disability Needs Assessment Questionnaire (necessary if request is based on a disability)

For new or transfer students

An entering first year or transfer student with a disability in need of a specific housing accommodation must submit the following to the Office of Student Disability Services:

  • A Disability Needs Assessment Questionnaire indicating your request for a housing accommodation
  • A Petition to the Committee on Accommodative Housing
  • Documentation supporting your request for a housing accommodation (see documentation guidelines listed on the petition)

Submit all of the above by the date listed on the Disability Needs Assessment Questionnaire as filing after this date may delay receiving housing accommodations until after the start of the semester, at which time availability may be limited.

Contact the Office of Student Disability Services if you have any questions regarding this process.

For students during the school year

A current student with a disability who has a need for a housing accommodation that becomes necessary during the school year must submit the following to the Office of Student Disability Services:

  • A Disability Needs Assessment Questionnaire indicating your request for a housing accommodation (see forms above)
  • A Petition to the Committee on Accommodative Housing
  • Documentation supporting your request for a housing accommodation (see documentation guidelines listed on the petition)

Please note: Rooms which meet a specific accommodation may not be available at this time; if this is the case, the student will be placed on a waiting list until an appropriate room becomes available.

Contact the Office of Student Disability Services if you have any questions regarding this process.

Procedure for continuing students

A continuing student with a disability who has a need for a housing accommodation for the following academic year must submit the following to the Office of Student Disability Services prior to the housing lottery (deadline date for filing is listed on the Petition to the Committee on Accommodative Housing):

  • A Disability Needs Assessment Questionnaire if you have not already done so
  • A Petition to the Committee on Accommodative Housing
  • Documentation which supports your request unless current documentation is already on file with the Student Disability Services office (See documentation guidelines listed on the petition)

If you have any questions on currency please check with the Student Disability Services office.

In addition to submitting a request for a housing accommodation each year, students must follow all other procedures and instructions outlined in the Housing Lottery booklet which can be found on the Residential Education and Living website.

Requests for necessary accommodations are highly encouraged to be made prior to the housing lottery because availability of rooms which might meet the student’s need is greater at that time. Students who have been granted accommodations in previous years must submit a new petition each year.

Contact the Office of Student Disability Services if you have any questions regarding this process.

  • Documentation which supports your request unless current documentation is already on file with the Student Disability Services office (See documentation guidelines listed on the petition)

Students returning from medical or personal leave

  • A Disability Needs Assessment Questionnaire if you have not already done so
  • A Petition to the Committee on Accommodative Housing
