Elizabeth Garcia, Dean of Multicultural Affairs

The Dean of Multicultural Affairs initiates and coordinates the College's programs in support of a pluralistic sudent experience, promotes ongoing campus discourse about equity in higher education and oversees or collaborates closely with the major offices and programs focused on diverse student constituencies, including:

Unity House
Office of Volunteers for Community Service (OVCS)
International Student Adviser
LGBTQ Resource Center

Born in New York City, Elizabeth Garcia, Dean of Multicultural Affairs and Director of Unity House, earned a BA in Economics and American Civilization from Brown University, the latter with a focus on Latino Studies. She received an MA and PhD in Ethnic Studies from the University of California at Berkeley, after which she became an Assistant Professor of Africana and Puerto Rican/Latino Studies at Hunter College in NYC, where she taught Latino/a Studies and Women's Studies from 2001-2006. Since 2006, she has served as the Director of Unity House at Connecticut College
