Student Events, Programs

Student events and programs

There is plenty to do on campus. There are favorite student spaces for gathering and you'll be able to enjoy many traditions.  Here are just some of the programs and activities sponsord by the offices of Student Activities, Residential Education and Living and and Student Life.

TNEs

Thursday Night Events, or TNEs, may be a dance party in Cro, or other type of social. TNEs are sponsored by a class, a residence hall or a club and are a great way to meet students.

Camelympics

Every October, over a weekend, more than 1,000 students take part in this two-day competition between residence halls. Events are both physically and intellectually challenging! Throughout the weekend, campus and house spirit is further solidified. Students wear their house-specific t-shirts, paint their faces, create banners and cheer housemates on during competitions. The winning house is announced at a dance party on the second night. There is a tremendous amount of pride and bragging rights for the house that wins each year!

Crush Party

Each residence hall sponsors this event - usually a dance or party - and students invite their "crush" or their friends to attend.

Spring Camel Cabaret

Camel Cabaret is a spring event in which each residence hall enters an act in a talent show and competes for a cash prize. The event is open to the entire College community and showcases the myriad talents of students, staff and faculty.

Adopt-a-Faculty/Staff Program

This program integrates faculty and staff into the residence halls. At the beginning of each year, students meet to select faculty and/or staff to adopt for the upcoming year. Once chosen, the adoptee(s) are frequently called to visit the house, become acquainted with the students, and participate in activities with residents. Our students enjoy this program because it promotes a stronger sense of community and brings students, faculty and staff closer. Past activities include discussion groups, game nights and house dinners.

Dessert and Dialogue

Created as part of a continuing effort to broaden the campus-wide intellectual community outside the classroom, dessert and a discussion take place in the residence halls, usually with a student-selected faculty and/or staff member. Often, the discussion pertains to the chosen member's field of expertise, but not always. Topics have included: Dialogues with the President; Representation of American Culture and the Super Bowl; Dating and Relationships; Human Trafficking and Love Your Body.

Fall and Spring Blood Drives

The Student Government Association, along with The American Red Cross, sponsors two or three blood drives each year at the College.  At each event, students volunteer to donate blood and are directly involved in recruiting donors and advertising each drive.  Blood drives are successful because of the student assistance, and greatly help Southeastern Connecticut hospitals' need for donated blood.
