SGA Leadership Positions
The Student Government Association (SGA) considers issues and formulates policies in areas primarily or exclusively involving the student body at Connecticut College: social, academic and co-curricular policies. SGA also seeks to extend channels of communication, increased areas of cooperation and a greater acceptance of shared responsibility between faculty, administration and students in general and academic interests.
SGA Executive Board
The SGA Executive Board consists of the following elected positions: President, Vice President, Public Relations Director, Chair of Academic Affairs, Chair of Judicial Board, Chair of Diversity and Equity, Chair of Student Activities Council, and Chair of Residential Affairs, and the following appointed positions: Presidential Associate and Parliamentarian.
The Executive Board coordinates efforts of the SGA Assembly members, assumes responsibility for deep level of involvement in all campus functions, and interacts with all levels of the campus administration, faculty, staff, and trustees.
The Executive Board is advised by the Dean of Student Life and other Offices of Student Life administrators.
House Senators
The House Senator is an elected position and is responsible for representing the students in his or her house to the Student Government Association Assembly on any issues that affect their house as well as students at Connecticut College in general. Senators are expected to keep their house informed of and seek opinions on issues related to SGA. The Senators are further responsible for sitting on two campus-wide committees as representatives of SGA.
Class Presidents
Each class (seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen) elects a Class President, who represents the class and works with a group of class officers. The Senior Class President speaks at Convocation and Commencement.
SGA Committees
There are a variety of campus committees that serve to advise administrative departments, offer input into academic offerings at the College, and to make decisions on matters including the budget, disciplinary matters, and housing decisions. In the early fall semester, the SGA will advertise and hold elections for many of these positions.
Student Activities Council (SAC)
The Student Activities Council of SGA is comprised of an Executive Board and a General Body including representation from each residential house, all four classes, and some student organizations. SAC is responsible for developing and implementing major campus events including Harvest Fest, Winter Formal, and Floralia. SAC also works throughout the year to provide a wide array of events including dances, concerts, etc. to enhance the social scene on campus. SAC works under the guidance of the SGA Chair of SAC and is advised by the Director of Student Activities.
Academic Advisory Boards
The student academic department advisory boards (SAB) represent students’ views on curriculum, staff appointments, tenure, and other academic issues to department faculty. The SABs work under the guidance of the SGA Chair of Academic Affairs.
