Unity Facilities

Facilities at Unity House

The present Unity House was dedicated as a new Cultural Center on November 11, 1989. It serves as the center for several campus organizations addressing issues of multiculturalism and diversity. Unity House was previously located at Vinal Cottage and the current building had served as the College House.

PepsiCo Room (Dedicated May 3, 1991)
This room was given by the PepsiCo Foundation in honor of Harvey C. Russell, former Vice President for Community Affairs at PepsiCo and Trustee of Connecticut College from 1981 to 1991. Functions and events are held here ranging from art openings to parties, as well as cultural discussions and musical performances. It is open for use by members of the campus community but must be reserved by the Unity House Secretary.

Unity Library
The Unity Library contains a 1400 book collection, mostly pertaining to multicultural and multiethnic issues, some of which are not available in the main library. It is also used as a meeting room and can accommodate approximately 15 people. The library contains one computer which can be reserved.

Kitchen
The fully-equipped kitchen is available for Unity residents, and for clubs who wish to provide food for events held at Unity House, or to treat themselves and their friends to a home-cooked meal. Other individuals may also sign out the kitchen and/or the PepsiCo Room. Please contact Unity House at extension 2628 in advance to reserve. A $50.00 deposit is required.

The office space in Unity House is divided into the Director's office, Program Coordinator's office and a general office. Personal artwork and the friendly, approachable attitude of the staff give the office a relaxed and productive atmosphere.
