The value of a funded internship
Internships allow you to extend your academic interests beyond the classroom and develop plans for graduate degrees and jobs. Internships can bring you to points around the nation or around the globe to engage in meaningful work. Internationally, recent destinations have included an environmental institute in Belize, a family planning consortium in Ethiopia and a research site for mapping glaciers in New Zealand. In the United States, our students have interned with hundreds of organizations in the for-profit and non-profit sectors.
How to get that internship
Our students find challenging and engaging internships, often by designing the internships themselves. As a sophomore, you'll take a series of three workshops through Career Enhancing Life Skills (CELS) geared toward identifying your interests and skills. Then you'll meet with a CELS counselor who will support you in your search for a paid junior-year summer internship or research opportunity. Completing the workshops makes you eligible for a $3,000 internship stipend from the College the summer between your junior and senior year. The stipend can make it possible for you to work with organizations that don't typically accept interns.
