Specialty Housing
Thematic Apartment Housing: 360 Mohegan, Park and Freeman Tower Apartments
The themes in these apartments change annually, depending upon students' interests. This allows sophomore, junior or senior residents to live in a small community with others sharing a common interest. The Park apartment and those at 360 Mohegan offer full kitchens, baths and are furnished. Freeman Tower does not offer a kitchen, but includes a bath and furnishings. Residents are expected to complete campus outreach and education. An application and presentation are required. When applying, residents choose a theme they will convey during their presentation.
Burdick Quiet House
The Quiet House provides students with an environment which is conducive to a quiet, but not silent, lifestyle. Residents are expected to respect 24-hour quiet hours Monday through Sunday. Special non-quiet hours may be established by residents on weekends. Burdick House is located in Central Campus. Residents are encouraged to participate in the residential community through House Council and other house activities.
Substance-Free Housing
Substance-free housing accommodates both students who desire a substance-free environment and those choosing a substance-free lifestyle. For 2008-09, substance-free housing is comprised of Blackstone House, the fourth floor of Smith House, and the third floor of Wright House. Students wishing to live in a substance-free environment agree not to smoke, consume alcohol, use illicit drugs, or bring any of these substances into the substance-free house.
Knowlton Language House
Knowlton Language House, the international residence hall, offers students the opportunity to learn about and explore many different cultures and languages in a cooperative environment. Knowlton House is located in south campus. The success of Knowlton House relies upon each resident's participation. Students are responsible for organizing a cultural presentation. The dining hall, which is open to the entire campus, is divided into language sections and offers students the chance to practice their language skills in a sectional setting.
Earth House
Earth House allows students to live in a small residential community in which all of the occupants commit to earth-friendly living. Earth House also serves as a focal point for student environmental activities and strives to act as an environmental model for the College. First-year students are not permitted to live in Earth House due to the time commitment involved.
Gender-Neutral Housing
Gender-neutral housing allows students to self-select roommates of a different gender or biological sex. This option will be available to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors. This option acknowledges the extraordinary diversity of the student population at Connecticut College, including gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning students, and ensures the College provides fair and inclusive housing options for all students. This option is not limited to any particular residence house.

River Ridge Apartments
Each River Ridge apartment provides five students with what they have called a "more real-life" living experience of living with roommates in a traditional apartment setting. Living in close proximity to faculty and staff members and their families requires a quieter lifestyle. Residents understand that along with the privilege of living in an apartment equipped with a full kitchen, bath, furnishings, as well as laundry facilities, comes the responsibility of respecting and adhering to this quieter lifestyle. Traditionally, residents of River Ridge have been junior and senior students in good social standing.
