Student Events and Programs

There is plenty to do on campus. There are favorite student spaces for gathering and you'll be able to enjoy many traditions. Here are some of the programs and activities sponsored by the offices of Student Activities, Residential Education and Living and and Student Life.

Intellectual Life in the Residence Halls

A new Residential Education Fellows program launched in the fall of 2009 is increasing faculty and student interactions outside of the classroom. Faculty members serve as liaisons and mentors and work closely with the student housefellows and house leaders to give and sponsor informal talks, plan educational programs and host study breaks, in the residence halls. TNEs

Thursday Night Events, or TNEs, may be a dance party in Cro, or other type of social. TNEs are sponsored by a class, a residence hall or a club and are a great way to meet students.

Every October, over a weekend, more than 1,000 students take part in this two-day competition between residence halls. Events are both physically and intellectually challenging! Throughout the weekend, campus and house spirit is further solidified. Students wear their house-specific t-shirts, paint their faces, create banners and cheer housemates on during competitions. The winning house is announced at a dance party on the second night. There is a tremendous amount of pride and bragging rights for the house that wins each year!

Spring Camel Cabaret

Camel Cabaret is a spring event in which each residence hall enters an act in a talent show and competes for a cash prize. The event is open to the entire College community and showcases the myriad talents of students, staff and faculty.

Dessert and Dialogue

Created as part of a continuing effort to broaden the campus-wide intellectual community outside the classroom, dessert and a discussion take place in the residence halls, usually with a student-selected faculty and/or staff member. Often, the discussion pertains to the chosen member's field of expertise, but not always. Topics have included: Dialogues with the President; Representation of American Culture and the Super Bowl; Dating and Relationships; Human Trafficking and Love Your Body.

Fall and Spring Blood Drives

The Student Government Association, along with The American Red Cross, sponsors two or three blood drives each year at the College. At each event, students volunteer to donate blood and are directly involved in recruiting donors and advertising each drive. Blood drives are successful because of the student assistance, and greatly help Southeastern Connecticut hospitals' need for donated blood.
