SATA Florence 2003

About the program

Through the Office of National and International Programs at Connecticut College, students in the Twelve College Exchange were offered an opportunity to study abroad at the Institute of Palazzo Rucellai and University of Florence's Magnetic Resonance Center (CERM).

The Spring 2003 semester program, Spectroscopy in Florence, was offered as a Study Away Teach Away (SATA) program in which a group of students and a Connecticut College professor participated in a high quality study abroad experience.

Faculty Director
Bruce R. Branchini, Hans and Ella McCollum '21 Vahlteich Professor of Chemistry. A member of the Connecticut College faculty since 1986, Professor Branchini earned a B.S. from Lehigh University, a Ph.D. in chemistry from Johns Hopkins University and served as a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University. He has been involved in bioluminescence work for more than 25 years. His academic interests include organic chemistry, biochemistry, organic spectrometric methods, and particular nuclear magnetic resonance instrumentation. In 2001, he led a group of Connecticut College chemistry majors on a 10-day TRIP to Florence.

Student Requirements:
Completion of two semesters of organic chemistry
GPA of 3.0 or higher
