Large-flowered Bellwort

Uvularia grandiflora

Brief Description:
7.5 inches to 1.5 feet at flowering; up to three feet in height at maturity. Flowers are yellow and nodding.

Blooms in April and May.

Geographic Range: From Maine and southern Quebec to Minnesota and North Dakota, south to Connecticut, Virginia, northern Georgia, Alabama, and Oklahoma.

Habitat: Rich woods, preferably with calcareous soil

Garden Use: This is a nice plant for the garden; its only shortcoming is that is is not long-lasting.

Historic Uses: When abundant, some young shoots may be boiled and eaten as asparagus.
