Red Baneberry

Actaea rubra

Brief Description
: Stem 15-30 inches. Leaflets commonly with hairy veins beneath. Petals are oval/egg-shaped to spatula shaped. Fruit is red, rarely white. Has wider leaves that White Baneberry.

Blooms from May to July.

Fruit from August to October.

Geographic Range: Range is circumboreal in America from Labrador and Newfoundland to Alaska, south to Connecticut, northern New Jersey, northern Indiana, Iowa, and Arizona.

Habitat: Rich woods

Garden Use: Same as White Baneberry

Historic Uses: All parts of the plant are poisonous. Red Baneberry is extensively used as parts of medicines. Berries are extremely poisonous.
