Sweet White Violet Viola blanda Family Violaceae
Brief Description: Flowers with white petals and purple in the middle. Leaves heart shaped-oval, dark green with a satiny sheen, 1-1.5 inches wide. A creeping plant with short stems. Blooms in April and May. Geographic Range: From southern Maine to New Jersey, Ohio, and southern Indiana; in the mountains to North Carolina, Tennessee, and northern Georgia. Habitat: Cool ravines and moist shady slopes in deep humus, usually under evergreens Garden Use: A beautiful low growing flower for the shade garden. Historic Uses: Violets are often collected for their scent either to be made into oil or as a decoration. Leaves are rich in vitamins A and C. |
